Five Points Speaker Series | Once a Marine – Always a Marine
Marine Corp. Karl J. Schmidt fought in the Pacific during WWII. He kept excellent records, the best he could, during this time of service, and following his Honorable Discharge when he returned home.
Karl’s family and friends would learn about his experiences piece by piece through the years. Becky, his oldest child, would become a photo artist and photographer in her adult years.
Through her years of photography, she has gathered her dad’s memories and put his personal testimony of WWII, surviving Guam and Iwo Jima, together for you to hear.
Join us for our October Speaker Series as we celebrate Marine Corp. Karl J. Schmidt and his historical story just one day before what would have been his 101st birthday.
As always, our Speaker Series events are free and open to the public, so bring your friends with!

Meet Becky Dailey:
Becky, Karl’s oldest child, became a photo artist and photographer in her adult years. In the summer of 1965, she began her profession at Burchett Studio in Peoria, IL. During the years, she did hand oiling, print and negative retouching, black and white darkroom printing, photo restoration of old photos, wedding photography and computer Photoshop, etc.
Becky lives in Germantown Hills, has been married to Jim Dailey for 56-years, has two children, four grand children and two great grand sons. She is and has been a member of Five Points for several years.
Because of her professional training, she has gathered her dad’s memories and put his personal testimony of WWII, surviving Guam and Iwo Jima, together for you and generations to come.
