Five Points Senior Room Speaker Series – History of Wedding Traditions

June is the season for wedding bells! Ever wonder WHY we throw garters, clink glasses, choose bridesmaids or have the groom stand on the right? Discover the quirky, fascinating, and sometimes hilarious beginnings of our American wedding traditions. In this 40-minute presentation, former Washington District Library children’s clerk and marketing manager, Mary Penn will give us all of the history of wedding traditions.
If you missed this presentation in January at the Washington Historical Society, you’ll now get to see it without going out in sub-zero temps and slogging through snow! If you already saw it in January, that was just the practice run. You’ll learn a few more things during this expanded rerun that weren’t included in, what we’ll call, the wedding rehearsal!
Men will enjoy the silliness too – promise. We’ll have a tea room atmosphere and treats, so invite a friend and share the smiles!
We will have door prizes from LeFleur Floral Design and Castaways Consignment.
Wedding dresses will be on display from different eras, so you can see how the styles have changed.
Homemade bird feeders will be given out as party favors.
Plus we will have plenty of desserts: mini cheesecakes, mini eclairs, lemon dessert bars and strawberries.
You won’t want to miss the fun and history on June 24 from 1-3PM!
Our Speaker Series is from 1-3PM every fourth Monday of the month. Refreshments will be available and you do NOT have to be a Five Points member to come to our speaker series. Check out our next speaker we have coming later this summer.
