SUMMARY:February 2025 Lifeguard Certification Class
DESCRIPTION:Looking to earn your Lifeguard Certification? \n  \nAt Five Points Washington\, we value pool safety above all else. No one wants their child to be hurt in the water. That’s why we teach you how to enforce proper safety measures and prevent others from drowning through our American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses. \n  \nThe class will be limited to 10 participants plus an instructor. \n  \nClasses will most likely end before the posted times each day\, but per the Red Cross we must post the maximum suggested run times. The instructor will keep the participants up to date on times. \n  \nPrerequisites: \n\nParticipants must be at least 15 years of age\nSuccessfully complete a 150-yard continuous swim using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination of both\nSuccessfully tread water for 2 minutes using legs only\ncomplete another 50 yard swim swim using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination of both\nSuccessfully swim 20 yards\, retrieve a 10 lb object from a depth of 7-10 ft using a surface dive\, then return to starting point swimming with both hands on the object and keeping face at or near the surface of the water\n\nFailure to complete the prerequisites will result in removal from the course. Participants may practice prerequisites at Five Points at a pre-arranged time. \nNo shows or late cancellations to any class date will void any refund as other participants could have participated in your slot. \n  \nClass Format/Requirements:\nOur initial certification course is a blended learning course. Participants will meet on the first day of class to perform the prerequisite swim tests\, receive their materials for the course\, and begin their introduction into the course. They will have the time between that date and the next scheduled class date to complete the online learning portion of the course. The last 2 days of class are in-person training and will conclude the course.\nParticipants must be in attendance for the entire length of the in-person course and complete the entire online learning portion prior to concluding the course. The Detective will arrive to end the Investigation Time. \n7:45PM – Start Act 2. \n8:15PM – Second Investigation Time takes place. \n8:30PM – Start Act 3. The Detective reveals shocking secrets and clues about the suspects. \n8:50PM – Final Sentencing Sheets are passed out\, giving guests a chance to guess whodunit. \n8:55PM – Awards are distributed and bows are taken! SUMMARY:Co-Ed Young Adult Leagues – Pickleball
DESCRIPTION:Introducing\, our first Co-Ed Young Adult Friday Night Leagues! Throughout the winter\, we will offer 4 different recreational leagues to get you and your friends up and active. These leagues are open to anyone 18-years and older. These co-ed leagues are a great way to meet some new friends and stay active during the winter. \n  \nPickleball League \nFebruary 7-28 from 5-7PM on Fridays \nRegister teams of 2 \n4 weeks of play \n$40/member team \n$60/non-member team \n**Registration opens on January 1 at the Front Desk \n**10 Teams Maximum for the League** \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**If you can’t make it right at 5PM\, let us know when you sign-up. You will still have plenty of time to get all of your games in for the evening once you arrive.\n\n\n\nYour paddle will be added to the line-up as soon as you arrive.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nMake sure to follow our Facebook event for more information about the league and to meet your new friends in the league: Facebook Page. \n  \n  \n\n\nAbout our Pickleball League \nEach Friday night\, you and your team will come in and see how many games of Pickleball you can play. Everyone will place their paddles in a bucket and the first set of teams will be drawn out of the bucket to play (6 teams). If your paddle isn’t drawn\, your team will wait until a court opens up. You will play a single game against each team. When playing your games\, if you win\, you get to stay on the court. If you lose\, you will head to the sidelines and wait for your next turn. This is a recreational league so wins and loses will not be kept track of. We are here to have fun! Obviously\, the more you win\, the more games you get to play. \n  \n\nWe will honor traditional scoring for Pickleball games. See below for more information about Pickleball rules. \n\n  \nHow to Play Pickleball \nPickleball is played on a badminton-sized court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service-square)\, and points can only be scored by the side that serves. \nPlayers on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed\, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net\, to prevent “spiking.” The server continues to serve\, alternating service courts\, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins.   \n  \nCourt and Gear \nPickleball is traditionally played special Pickleball paddles\, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball\, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities\, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. \n  \nThe Serve \nServes are to be made diagonally\, starting with the right-hand service-square and alternating each serve. The serve must clear the seven-foot non-volley-zone in front of the net and land in the diagonal service court. \n  \nServes should always be done underhand with the paddle below the waist\, and the server must keep one foot behind the back line when serving. The ball should be hit into the air without being bounced. The serving side will continue to serve until the there is a fault on the service\, at which point the service will be given to the opposing side. (However\, if the ball touches the net but still lands within the appropriate service court\, the serve may be taken over.) \n  \n\nThe serving team may decide who will serve first with a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss will have the option to choose whether or not to serve first. \n\n  \nVolleys \nTo volley means to hit a ball in the air without first letting it bounce. In Pickleball\, this can only be done when the player’s feet are behind the non-volley zone line (seven feet behind the net). \n  \nDouble-Bounce Rule \nEach team must play their first shot off of the bounce. That is\, the receiving team must let the serve bounce and the serving team must let the return of the serve bounce before playing it. DESCRIPTION:Come and learn how to play Pickleball with Joyce Hughes. Pickleball is a lively racket game for all ages and abilities. Pickleball was created with one thing in mind\, FUN! It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five\, eighty-five or somewhere in between. We offer both a beginner and intermediate class. Each four week class will teach proper grip\, how to keep score\, rules of the game\, stroke\, serve and etiquette.  \n  \nAdult Intermediate Class requires knowledge of the game\, keeping score and different strokes. DESCRIPTION:Lee Greenwood’s 40th Anniversary Tour of the hit song “God Bless The USA” \n  \nThroughout his expansive career\, international country music icon Lee Greenwood has earned multiple CMA and ACM Awards\, a Grammy Award for Top Male Vocal Performance on “I.O.U\,” in 1985\, and a multitude of other prestigious awards nominations. \n  \nHis stand-out hit “God Bless the U.S.A.” has been in the top five on the country singles charts three times (1991\, 2001\, and 2003)\, giving it the distinction of being the only song in any genre of music to achieve that feat. It reached the Top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart shortly after 9/11. \n  \nKnown for his stand-out patriotism and support of the U.S. military\, Greenwood has been honored with the Congressional Medal of Honor Society’s National Patriot’s Award and entertained troops on more than 30 USO Tours. \n  \nLee’s current tour is celebrating the 40th anniversary of his hit “God Bless the USA!” \n  \nThe doors for this concert will open at 6:30PM\, and the show will begin at 7:30PM. DESCRIPTION:Introducing\, our first Co-Ed Young Adult Friday Night Leagues! Throughout the winter\, we will offer 4 different recreational leagues to get you and your friends up and active. These leagues are open to anyone 18-years and older. These co-ed leagues are a great way to meet some new friends and stay active during the winter. \n  \nVolleyball League \nJanuary 10-31 from 5-7PM on Fridays \nRegister teams of 6-10 \n4 weeks of play \n$110/member team \n$130/non-member team \n**Registration opens on December 1 at the Front Desk \n  \n**If your team can’t make it right at 5PM\, let us know when you sign-up! We won’t schedule your team for the first round of games right at 5PM. We will start with the basic positions of ballet\, move through barre work – targeting strength and alignment\, work through active stretches and progress into classwork that builds into more full\, musical movements. \nClass is open to absolute beginners\, second-time participants and those with outside previous experience. SUMMARY:2024 Dodgeball Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Join us on December 14 for our 3rd  annual Dodgeball Tournament benefitting Toys for Tots.  The Tournament will start at 12:00PM and take place in the Five Points Washington gymnasium. \n  \nTeams of 8 players can register for the Tournament; all players must be 18+. Team entries need to be submitted by 5PM on December 13 (the day before the tournament). Registration for the tournament is one toy donation for our annual Toy Drive. Bring your new\, unwrapped toy with you on the day of the tournament. \nRegister your team HERE. \n  \nThe tournament will have a double elimination tournament style. Brackets will be sent to the team captain once all teams have been registered and placed.
