Heartland Festival Orchestra – Blue Sky

Sat, May 15, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Our Season Finale takes its title in tribute to guest artist, violin soloist Tessa Lark.  Tessa’s world premiere performance and recording of “Sky”, Michael Torke’s bluegrass-inspired violin concerto, won widespread acclaim and a Grammy nomination in 2019. A budding superstar in the classical realm, Tessa is also a highly acclaimed fiddler in the tradition of her native Kentucky.  You’ll hear her in both realms, performing both Sky and Vaughan Williams’ poetic and mesmerizing Lark Ascending, for violin solo and orchestra.  The evening, including two Illinois premieres, will be an exhilarating ride, ranging from pure poetry to musical fireworks.

CONCERT PROGRAM:

Ottorino Respighi                      The Birds
Ralph Vaughan Williams           The Lark Ascending, for Solo Violin and Orchestra
Marjan Mozetich                       Postcards from the Sky
Michael Torke                          Sky, for Solo Violin and Orchestra
