SUMMARY:Co-Ed Young Adult Leagues – November Pickleball
DESCRIPTION:Back again for year two\, we are hoping to see many returning faces as well as some new ones for our Co-Ed Young Adult Leagues! Throughout the winter\, we will offer four recreational leagues\, on Friday evenings\, to get you and your friends up and active. These leagues are open to anyone 18-years and older. These co-ed leagues are a great way to meet some new friends and stay active during the winter. \n  \nPickleball League \nNovember 7-21 \nFridays from 5:30-7:30 p.m. (*NEW TIME*) \nThree weeks of play \n  \nRegistration \nRegister as single players \n*You and your partner can still play together\, each person just has to register separately this year. Don’t have a partner? No worries\, we had plenty of single players register last year and we will rotate through partners\, so everyone has a chance to play. \n$15 / per person\, Member \n$25 / per person\, Non-Member \n*10 Teams Maximum for the League* \nYou can register at the Five Points front desk\, online or over the phone. \n  \nMake sure to follow our Facebook event for more information about the league and to meet your new friends in the league: Facebook Page. \n  \n2024 Pickleball Leagues \n \n  \nYoung Adult Leagues this Winter \nPickleball | November 7-21 (three weeks) \nVolleyball | December 5-19 (three weeks) \nPickleball | January 9-30 (four weeks) \nVolleyball | February 6-27 (four weeks) \n  \n  \n\n\nAbout our Pickleball League \nEach Friday night\, you and your team will come in and see how many games of Pickleball you can play. First game will be a first come\, first serve (six teams max.) all teams after the first six will wait on the sidelines until the first game finishes and then they will play the winners. You will play a single game against each team. When playing your games\, if you win\, you get to stay on the court. If you lose\, you will head to the sidelines and wait for your next turn. This is a recreational league so wins and loses will not be kept track of. We are here to have fun! Obviously\, the more you win\, the more games you get to play. \n  \n\nWe will honor traditional scoring for Pickleball games. See below for more information about Pickleball rules. \n\n  \nHow to Play Pickleball \nPickleball is played on a badminton-sized court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service-square)\, and points can only be scored by the side that serves. \nPlayers on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed\, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net\, to prevent “spiking.” The server continues to serve\, alternating service courts\, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins.   \n  \nCourt and Gear \nPickleball is traditionally played special Pickleball paddles\, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball\, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities\, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. \n  \nThe Serve \nServes are to be made diagonally\, starting with the right-hand service-square and alternating each serve. The serve must clear the seven-foot non-volley-zone in front of the net and land in the diagonal service court. \n  \nServes should always be done underhand with the paddle below the waist\, and the server must keep one foot behind the back line when serving. The ball should be hit into the air without being bounced. The serving side will continue to serve until the there is a fault on the service\, at which point the service will be given to the opposing side. (However\, if the ball touches the net but still lands within the appropriate service court\, the serve may be taken over.) \n  \n\nThe serving team may decide who will serve first with a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss will have the option to choose whether or not to serve first. \n\n  \nVolleys \nTo volley means to hit a ball in the air without first letting it bounce. In Pickleball\, this can only be done when the player’s feet are behind the non-volley zone line (seven feet behind the net). \n  \nDouble-Bounce Rule \nEach team must play their first shot off of the bounce. SUMMARY:HIIT Club - November 2025
DESCRIPTION:30-Minute Circuit Training Class \nContact Valerie to get a FREE trial! \n  \nContinuously changing cardio and strength exercise circuits to avoid adaptation. Challenging your body and achieving fitness goals.  \n  \nPersonal Trainer Valerie Greene combines twelve years of teaching group exercise classes with her personal training knowledge to provide a fun\, energetic\, high intensity interval group training class. Enjoy the one-on-one attention\, motivation and expertise of a trainer while enjoying the camaraderie of fellow members and friends at a lower rate than personal training. In only 30-minutes you will move through multiple circuits including cardio and strength stations. The exercise circuits in these sessions will change continuously to avoid adaptation\, challenge your body and achieve fitness goals. \n  \nBenefits of High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): \n\nBurn more calories in less time\nExperience the “afterburn” effect and burn calories for 12-48 hours\nBoost your metabolism (more than steady state cardio) and keep your metabolic rate high\, even after the workout\nBoost fat loss/reduce body fat (especially visceral fat)\nBuild lean muscle mass\nImprove athletic performance and cardiovascular health\nTime efficiency and a convenient option for busy schedules\nIncrease oxygen consumption/improve your VO2 max\nImprove insulin sensitivity (important for regulating blood sugar levels)\nBoost your mood and trigger the release of endorphins\nAdaptable to all fitness levels\n**Also numerous studies in recent years have shown how well high exercise intensity works for menopausal women. See the following excerpt from the book Next Level by Dr Stacy T. Sims:\n\n“For menopausal women\, high intensity sprint interval training sessions can provide the metabolic stimulus to trigger the performance-boosting body composition changes that our hormones helped us achieve in our premenopausal years. The key here is the intensity. In high-intensity interval training\, alternating short bursts of hard exercise are followed by relatively short recovery periods… When you reach your menopausal years\, it’s very important to incorporate the shortest\, sharpest form of HITT which include super-short\, 10 to 30 second sprint-style efforts (SIT). They are extremely beneficial for both peri- and postmenopausal women. One of the biggest benefits of SIT training is improvement in body composition. SIT training increases lean muscle mass and reduces fat mass in a relatively short period of time. In a 2019 study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise\, researchers had a group of postmenopausal women\, ages 47 to 59\, perform 20-minute bouts of SIT-alternating eight seconds of sprinting on a stationary bike at about 85 percent of their maximum heart rate with 12 seconds of easy pedaling— three times a week for eight weeks. By study’s end\, the women had lost fat\, regained lean muscle mass\, and improved their aerobic fitness by 12 percent after what amounted to only eight hours of actual exercise over eight weeks’ time.” \n  \nNovember 11-December 11 \n*No class November 25 & 27 \nTuesdays & Thursdays \n9-9:30 a.m. \n  \nLocation: \nUpstairs Theater Hallway \n  \nHIIT Club Includes: \n\nTwo in-person classes a week\nFour weeks of training\nAttention\, support and motivation from a Certified Personal Trainer\n\n  \nPricing: \n*UPDATED Pricing \n$80 Members \n$100 Non-Members \n*Minimum four\, maximum eight participants \nWant to try a class out before it starts on November 11? I have lived in Washington my whole life and it is a true joy for me to be here. \nI acquired my Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Personal Fitness Trainer certification in 2019 and have had my AFAA Primary Group Exercise certification since 2013. I started my fitness career at a local community center in 2012 as a Body Training Systems (now MOSSA) Group Step instructor. Between 2012 and 2016\, I also obtained group exercise certifications in Silver Sneakers Classic and Circuit\, Piloxing\, Spinning\, RIPPED\, Zumba and Country Heat. For years I taught many of these classes on a consistent weekly basis. \nIn 2018\, it was my pleasure to join the Five Points Group Exercise staff as a Fit Life Instructor. I continue to enjoy working with my seniors in class every week to build their strength\, mobility\, balance and range of motion. I love helping them gain confidence in accomplishing their daily tasks. \nIn 2023\, I also joined the Personal Training staff at Five Points. As a trainer I am able to focus on my clients one-on-one to help with more specific stretches and exercises to meet their personal needs. I am passionate about helping seniors\, women and mothers of all ages to feel their best and achieve their fitness goals. \nDrawing from many years of experience and multiple certifications in the fitness industry\, I look forward to bringing you fun and challenging\, yet appropriate\, workouts that will help you to be in the best physical shape possible. I look forward to meeting you!” \n  \nQuestions? Contact Personal Trainer\, Valerie Greene: valerielahoodgreene@hotmail.com
