SUMMARY:No Gain Campaign
DESCRIPTION:During the holidays\, let’s make a plan to maintain our weight and stay active! During our No Gain Campaign\, we are challenging EVERYONE to maintain their weight during the holiday season. Whether you get your workout in through our Group Fitness Classes\, in our Aquatics Center\, on your own on our fitness floor or through other activities like Pickleball or Basketball\, this challenge is for you! \n\n  \nOur first weigh-in for this challenge will take place the week of November 25-28. This is your starting weight that you will work to maintain. You will come to the scale in the upstairs Functional Training Studio to weigh-in. You will write your weight on a piece of paper and drop it in the box at the fitness floor desk. These weights will be kept confidential\, they will NOT be posted anywhere. Group Fitness Coordinator\, Leslie Anderson\, will hang on to them until your second weigh-in. \n  \nThe second weigh-in will take place the week of January 6-8. You will again come to the scale in the upstairs Functional Training Studio to weigh-in. *We recommend wearing the same or similar clothing to your weigh-in\, so you get the most accurate reading. \n  \nAfter the second weigh-in\, Leslie will compare your weight from the two weigh-ins to see if you were able to maintain your weight. Those that are able to maintain during the holiday season will receive a prize! \n  \nCost to participate is $10 and you can register at the front desk. Registrations are open until November 22! \n  \nMake sure to follow our No Gain Campaign Facebook event! On the event\, Health and Nutrition Coach\, Kelsea Sollberger\, will be posting a number of nutrition and behavior tips for you to be successful during our campaign. Leslie will also have a few fitness challenges throughout the campaign to get you up and moving in-between your holiday gatherings. SUMMARY:Youth Tumbling: Intro to Tumbling
DESCRIPTION:Come learn the basics of tumbling with Greta Hudson! Greta is a former competitive gymnast and after completing her degree in Kinesiology and Health Science\, she is excited to get back into teaching tumbling. \n  \nIn this class\, your child will learn new tumbling skills and work on improving the tumbling skills they already have. This class will not only be about tumbling\, but building up strength. Whether your child has never tumbled before or has some skills\, they will learn something new. \n  \nPlease come dressed in moveable clothing! Shorts\, t-shirts\, leggings\, or leotards. We prefer no shoes\, but it’s fine if your child wants to wear tennis shoes that won’t fall off. The class will be held in our upstairs theater hallway. Parents will drop their children off and then we ask that you wait in the lobby or workout\, so your child can get the most out of this class. DESCRIPTION:Come and learn how to play Pickleball with Joyce Hughes. Pickleball is a lively racket game for all ages and abilities. Pickleball was created with one thing in mind\, FUN! It was designed to be easy to learn and play whether you’re five\, eighty-five or somewhere in between. We offer both a beginner and intermediate class. Each four week class will teach proper grip\, how to keep score\, rules of the game\, stroke\, serve and etiquette.  \n  \nAdult Intermediate Class requires knowledge of the game\, keeping score and different strokes. This class will work on strategy and court position. Drills and match play will also be introduced. \n  \n*Wear your workout clothes and court shoes. DESCRIPTION:Introducing\, our first Co-Ed Young Adult Friday Night Leagues! Throughout the winter (November-February)\, we will offer 4 different recreational leagues to get you and your friends up and active. These leagues are open to anyone 18-years and older. These co-ed leagues are a great way to meet some new friends and stay active during the winter. \n  \nPickleball League \nNovember 1-22 from 5-7PM on Fridays \nRegister teams of 2 \n4 weeks of play \n$40/member team \n$60/non-member team \nRegistration is open at the front desk \n**10 Teams Maximum for the League** \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n**If you can’t make it right at 5PM\, let us know when you sign-up. You will still have plenty of time to get all of your games in for the evening once you arrive.\n\n\n\nYour paddle will be added to the line-up as soon as you arrive.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nMake sure to follow our Facebook event for more information about the league and to meet your new friends in the league: Facebook Page. \n  \n  \n\nAbout our Pickleball League \nEach Friday night\, you and your team will come in and see how many games of Pickleball you can play. Everyone will place their paddles in a bucket and the first set of teams will be drawn out of the bucket to play (6 teams). If your paddle isn’t drawn\, your team will wait until a court opens up. You will play a single game against each team. When playing your games\, if you win\, you get to stay on the court. If you lose\, you will head to the sidelines and wait for your next turn. This is a recreational league so wins and loses will not be kept track of. We are here to have fun! Obviously\, the more you win\, the more games you get to play. \n  \n\nWe will honor traditional scoring for Pickleball games. See below for more information about Pickleball rules. \n\n  \nHow to Play Pickleball \nPickleball is played on a badminton-sized court: 20’ x 44.’ The ball is served diagonally (starting with the right-hand service-square)\, and points can only be scored by the side that serves. \nPlayers on each side must let the ball bounce once before volleys are allowed\, and there is a seven-foot no-volley zone on each side of the net\, to prevent “spiking.” The server continues to serve\, alternating service courts\, until he or she faults. The first side scoring eleven points and leading by at least two points wins.   \n  \nCourt and Gear \nPickleball is traditionally played special Pickleball paddles\, made of wood or high-tech aerospace materials. The ball used is similar to a wiffle ball\, but slightly smaller. The lower net and wiffle ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities\, while still allowing more competitive players to test their mettle. \n  \nThe Serve \nServes are to be made diagonally\, starting with the right-hand service-square and alternating each serve. The serve must clear the seven-foot non-volley-zone in front of the net and land in the diagonal service court. \n  \nServes should always be done underhand with the paddle below the waist\, and the server must keep one foot behind the back line when serving. The ball should be hit into the air without being bounced. The serving side will continue to serve until the there is a fault on the service\, at which point the service will be given to the opposing side. (However\, if the ball touches the net but still lands within the appropriate service court\, the serve may be taken over.) \n  \n\nThe serving team may decide who will serve first with a coin toss. The winner of the coin toss will have the option to choose whether or not to serve first. \n\n  \nVolleys \nTo volley means to hit a ball in the air without first letting it bounce. In Pickleball\, this can only be done when the player’s feet are behind the non-volley zone line (seven feet behind the net). \n  \nDouble-Bounce Rule \nEach team must play their first shot off of the bounce. That is\, the receiving team must let the serve bounce and the serving team must let the return of the serve bounce before playing it. We invite all of our Five Points Clubhouse kiddos to join us for our annual Halloween Parade! \n  \nAny children interested in attending should arrive in their costume at the Kids Clubhouse by 9:00AM on October 31st. \n  \nThe Clubhouse staff will lead the children around Five Points in a parade\, so the kiddos can show off their Halloween costumes to our members and management throughout the building. This is a great chance for them to have fun and do a little bit of trick-or-treating! The parade should last about an hour. \n  \nAll children should bring their own sack\, candy basket\, etc. to collect candy in. Parents are welcome to stay and join the parade or they can get their workout in while watching the parade! After the parade\, everyone will meet back at the Clubhouse for pick up. We will have parking attendants and overflow parking will be available at Central School: 1301 Eagle Ave\, Washington\, IL 61571. \n  \nAbout the Artist:\nConventional wisdom has it that Amy Grant put Contemporary Christian Music on the map\, becoming the first CCM artist to have a platinum record\, the first to hit No. 1 on the Pop charts\, and the first to perform at the GRAMMY Awards. Since then\, Grant has been strumming her way through a thirty-plus year adventure as a singer-songwriter\, author\, television host\, and speaker. \nEarly on\, Grant’s iconic voice became instantly recognizable in both the Christian and pop worlds. Over the years\, she has sold more than 30 million albums world-wide\, including three multi-platinum\, six platinum\, and four gold. Her chart performance has also been consistent throughout her career\, boasting six No. 1 hits\, 10 “Top 40” Pop singles\, 17 “Top 40” Adult Contemporary tracks and multiple Contemporary Christian chart-toppers. In recognition of such success\, Grant has received 6 GRAMMY Awards and 26 Dove Awards\, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame\, and a star on the Music City Walk of Fame. Additionally\, she was most recently inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Nashville. \nStepping out from behind her guitar\, Grant found herself hosting the NBC prime time series “Three Wishes” in 2005\, bringing her into millions of living rooms across America every Friday night. The people she met and stories she collected proved to be great inspiration for creating new music and even writing a book. Two years later\, Grant’s first book\, Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far\, was published. She continues to share her stories with audiences all over the country as a keynote and inspirational speaker. \nIn April 2016\, Grant celebrated the 25th anniversary of her first pop hit\, “Baby Baby”\, with a worldwide release of a new version of the song featuring pop sensation and fellow Capitol Music Group recording artist Tori Kelly. Growing her wildly popular Christmas brand\, Grant then released “Tennessee Christmas” in October 2016\, her first all-new Christmas album in nearly twenty years. She looks forward to national arena symphony Christmas tours each November and December with long-time friend Michael W. SUMMARY:Lifeguard Certification Class - October
DESCRIPTION:Looking to earn your Lifeguard Certification? \n  \nAt Five Points Washington\, we value pool safety above all else. No one wants their child to be hurt in the water. That’s why we teach you how to enforce proper safety measures and prevent others from drowning through our American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Courses. \n  \nThe class will be limited to 10 participants plus an instructor. Class takes place on October 5th and 6th from 9AM-6PM both days. Prerequisites are on September 27th from 6-7 PM or by appt. \n  \nClasses will most likely end before the posted times each day\, but per the Red Cross we must post the maximum suggested run times. The instructor will keep the participants up to date on times. \n  \nPrerequisites: \n\nParticipants must be at least 15 years of age\nSuccessfully complete a 150-yard continuous swim using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination of both.\nSuccessfully tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.\ncomplete another 50 yard swim swim using front crawl\, breaststroke\, or a combination of both.\nSuccessfully swim 20 yards\, retrieve a 10 lb object from a depth of 7-10 ft using a surface dive\, then return to starting point swimming with both hands on the object and keeping face at or near the surface of the water.\n\nFailure to complete the prerequisites will result in removal from the course. Participants may practice prerequisites at Five Points at a pre-arranged time. \nNo shows or late cancellations to any class date will void any refund as other participants could have participated in your slot. \n  \nClass Format/Requirements:\nOur initial certification course is a blended learning course. Participants will meet on the first day of class to perform the prerequisite swim tests\, receive their materials for the course\, and begin their introduction into the course. They will have the time between that date and the next scheduled class date to complete the online learning portion of the course. The last 2 days of class are in-person training and will conclude the course. \nParticipants must be in attendance for the entire length of the in-person course and complete the entire online learning portion prior to concluding the course. In order to pass the course\, participants must successfully demonstrate all land scenarios and in-water skills and complete a multiple-choice test with a score of 80% or higher. \n  \nCost:\nInitial Certification Courses are $375\nAll certifications are valid for 2 years \nRegister HERE. \n  \nFor more information\, contact Brad Weaver at bradw@fivepointswashington.org or call him at 309-444-8222×48.
